Abstract
The photochemical behaviour of orange, red and blue mono azo dyes, whi ch were distributed into fibroin macromolecules has been investigated in this study. Some of the samples were treated with a UV-absorber. Th e extent of photofading was evaluated by means of the colour differenc e Delta E. A linear correlation between Delta E and the content of car bonyl groups with high coefficient of correlation (R=0.99) was obtaine d. New experimental evidence for the photoreduction mechanism of azo d yes in silk fibers was established. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Limited. All rights reserved.
