Le. Doerries et Dr. Ridley, TIME SENSITIVITY AND PURPOSE IN LIFE - CONTRASTING THEORETICAL PERSPECTIVES OF MYERS-BRIGGS AND FRANKL,VICTOR, Psychological reports, 83(1), 1998, pp. 67-71
This study investigated the relationship between time sensitivity and
purpose in lift. Time sensitivity was operationally defined by scores
on the Judging-Perceiving dimension of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator
and by whether subjects reported habitual watch-wearing. Scores indic
ating the Judging orientation and watch-wearing defined individuals wh
o were most responsive to the dimension of time. Purpose in life was o
perationally defined by scores on the Crumbaugh and Maholick Purpose i
n Life Test. A multiple linear regression analysis showed no differenc
e in scores on the Purpose in Life Test between Judgers and Perceivers
, apparently supporting the Myers-Briggs perspective that having a spe
cific temperament does not convey any special advantage in added value
or meaning to one's life. Watch-wearing Lest predicted scores on the
Purpose in Life Test. The results were discussed in terms of competing
theoretical perspectives.
