The ploidy effect in three lines of different origin was analysed. It
was confirmed that this was dependent on the line, although some trait
s were common. The following new traits appeared in the triploids: par
thenocarpy, increased fruit size, stronger femaleness, seedlessnesss,
new classes pollen size, a marked decrease of pollen fertility, appear
ance of pollen with 4-6 pollen-tube holes, and larger flower crown. Th
e specifics of the lines manifested themselves in the changing values
of the following traits: plant hight, number of male and female nodes,
parthenocarpy. Among particularly useful triploid traits should be re
cognised a fruit setting rate of 13-41% without any pollination, and 9
-11 fold increase in fruit setting as a result of pollination by diplo
id plants. In only one case it was possible to obtain triploids if the
2x line was used as a maternal parent. However many of their character
were worse as in reversal cross.
