S. Kirn et al., A STUDY OF CHARACTERISTICS OF DISK VIBRATION AND ROTATING AIR-FLOW INMAGNETO-OPTICAL DISK-DRIVES, IEEE transactions on consumer electronics, 44(3), 1998, pp. 601-605
A study on dynamic characteristics of rotating disks in magneto optica
l disk drives is presented. Natural frequencies of the rotating disks
are investigated experimentally and numerically. The frequency respons
e and critical speeds of the ASMO disk are discussed. The characterist
ics of airflow around the disk and their effects on disk vibrations ar
e also investigated. If is found that the numerical calculation of the
natural frequencies of rotating dish agrees well with the experimenta
l results. The airflow around the disk in the cartridge affects the ch
aracteristics of the disk vibrations to reduce the modal frequencies o
f the disk. The experiment shows that negative vertical offsets of the
disk in the cartridge possibly increase the vibration amplitudes. Bei
ng influenced by the geometry of the cartridge, the rotation of the di
sk causes an asymmetric airflow in the presence of window.
