Pyrolytic routes previously developed for the formation of hydroxyapat
ite and calciumfluoride were modified and combined for the formation o
f hydroxyapatite/fluoroapatite solid solutions. Hereby phenyldichlorop
hosphine, calcium nitrate and calcium trifluoroacetate were used as st
arting materials. Hydrolysis and oxidation led to a polycondensation a
nd enabled the formation of a viscous solution which, by means of dryi
ng, could be transformed to an amorphous solid. Calcining of this soli
d at temperatures up to 1100-degrees-C led to the formation of hydroxy
apatite/fluoroapatite solid solutions.
