This article introduces version 0.1 of the neurologically-Related Chan
ges in Personality Inventory (NECHAPI), an instrument designed as a to
ol to assess personality factors in neurological patients and to regis
ter changes observed in patients after a neurological condition has ap
peared or following treatment of the same. The NECHAPI consists of 40
statements, easily rated by close family and friends of patients with
neurological problems. A total of 135 normal subjects and 32 patients
with neurological damage were evaluated. Reliability analysis showed a
n alpha = 0.7 for the entire inventory. Factor analysis showed five fa
ctors accounting for 45.5% of the variance: anger, sensation seeking,
emotional vulnerability, sociability, and motivation. (C) 1998 Elsevie
