At room temperature the sequence of phases with increasing amounts of
strontium in the system CaTiO3/SrTiO3 is orthorhombic (Pnma), orthorho
mbic (Bmmb), tetragonal (I4/mcm), and cubic (Pm3m). All phase boundari
es shift toward smaller strontium contents with increase of temperatur
e. Volume changes resulting from phase transformations are small for a
ll compositions. Shape changes are greatest (similar to 0.3%) for the
Bmmb/I4/mcm transition, but would probably be accommodated by microtwi
nning and so are unlikely to affect the mechanical integrity of a spec
imen. (C) 1998 Academic Press.
