Baster population (Namibia) change since its departure from South Afri
ca in 1868 up to the present. Three groups of sources are evaluated. F
rom the resulting data a long-term growth rate of 3.3% is inferred, an
d the implications of this rate for the economy are discussed which wa
s at first based on animal husbandry.
