In a linear approximation, asymptotic expressions are obtained for the
amplitude-phase characteristics of three-dimensional lee waves in the
case when an arbitrarily oriented uniform flow of a viscous stratifie
d fluid with constant buoyancy frequency is incident upon an obstacle.
Laboratory investigations of the pattern of lee waves are carried out
using optical and sounding techniques. Calculation results for the fo
rm of crests and valleys and for the position of the boundary of the w
ave zone are in satisfactory agreement with the laboratory experiments
, whereas the calculated values of amplitudes are underestimated.
