Samples of seston, plankton and suprabenthic species were collected in
the Seine estuary along the gradient of salinity (0 to > 30 PSU) duri
ng six cruises from September 1992 to September 1995. Concentrations o
f Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn were measured at different levels of the estuarian
pelagic trophic web, such as organic detritus, diatoms, Copepods and
suprabenthic organisms (mysids, shrimps and fish). Organic detritus, p
hytoplankton and Copepods showed heavy metal contamination due to bioc
hemical processes along the gradient of salinity, For carnivorous spec
ies (shrimps and fish), this contamination may be found only for Zn an
d Pb. No bio-magnification may be described in the trophic web of the
Seine estuary. ((C) Academie des sciences / Elsevier, Paris.).
