Ac. Mitropoulos et al., THE COMBINATION OF EQUILIBRIUM AND DYNAMIC METHODS FOR THE DETAILED STRUCTURAL CHARACTERIZATION OF CERAMIC MEMBRANES, Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 18(11), 1998, pp. 1545-1558
The combination of equilibrium and dynamic techniques provides powerfu
l tools for the characterisation of the porous structure of ceramic me
mbranes. We present the type of information obtainable by the permeabi
lity, adsorption and small angle scattering (SAS) methods and importan
t combinations of them. Subsequently, we apply selected combinations o
f the above methods to three characteristic ceramic membrane materials
. (a) a mesoporous alumina produced by symmetric compaction, (b) a Vyc
or(R)-type mesoporous silica, and (c) art asymmetric carbon membrane w
ith a microporous gas-separating layer. Important conclusions are draw
n regarding the pore and internal surface morphology of the studied me
mbranes. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Limited. All rights reserved.
