In this paper, the interaction of complexes Cu(phen)(2)(2+) and Cu(bpy
)(2)(2+) with B-mercaptopurine (6-MP) and adenine were studied by fluo
rescence, UV-Vis spectroelectrochemical, and spectroelectrochemical me
thods. Fluorescence and electrochemical results indicated that the com
plex ratios of copper complexes with 6-MP and adenine are 1 : 1, and t
he complex constants of Cu(phen)(2)(2+) and Cu(bpy)(2)(2+) with 6-MP a
re 2. 23 x 10(4) L/mol and 6. 11 x 10(4) L/mol, with adenine being 1.
91 x 10(4) L/mol and 5. 45 x 10(4) L/mol respectively, Spectroelectroc
hemical behavior of the copper complexes changed obviously in the pres
ence of 6-MP. These results indicated that there are strong interactio
ns of copper complexes with 6-MP.
