We compute the branching ratio for DELTA --> Ne+e- and DELTA --> Nmu+m
u- in chiral perturbation theory and find that both decays should be o
bservable at the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility. With s
ufficiently low threhsolds on the e+e- invariant mass a branching rati
o of approximately 10(-5) may be observed for DELTA --> Ne+e-. For the
DELTA --> Nmu+mu- decay mode we predict a branching ratio of 3 X 10(-
7). The dependence of the M1 and E2 amplitudes on the momentum transfe
r will provide a useful test of chiral perturbation theory which predi
cts approximately 20% variation over the allowed kinematic range.
