Sf. Tikhov et al., MECHANISM OF FORMATION OF POROUS AL2O3 AL COMPOSITES IN HYDROTHERMAL CONDITIONS/, Reaction kinetics and catalysis letters, 64(2), 1998, pp. 301-308
Main features of the formation of porous composites by hydrothermal tr
eatment of powdered aluminium were studied by scanning electron micros
copy, TEM, XPD, IR spectroscopy of lattice modes, and thermal analysis
. Hydrothermal oxidation of aluminium was shown to proceed via generat
ion and subsequent oriented growth of well-crystallized boehmite plate
lets, whose subsequent dehydration yields gamma-alumina. Relation betw
een the degree of the metal oxidation and specific surface area /crush
ing strength of the composites was analyzed.
