EFFECT OF FUNGICIDES ON ENTOMOPATHOGENIC FUNGUS, VERTICILLIUM-LECANII

The effect of fungicides on Verticillium lecanii on culture media was classified into three grades. Three strains of V. lecanii were studied for practical control of Aphis gossypii and Trialeurodes vaporariorum in greenhouses. Fungicides with no effect on culture media had no eff ect on V. lecanii in greenhouse trials. When fungicides with some effe ct on culture media were applied 3 days after application of V. lecani i, the secondary infectivity of V. lecanii tended to be weak. When fun gicides with strong effect on culture media were applied within 3 days after application of V. lecanii, insect mortality due to V. lecanii w as not seen. It seems that the effect of the fungicides on V. lecanii has no relationship to the different strains of V. lecanii. If we can develop a system to integrate use of V. lecanii with fungicides, V. le canii could be put to practical use.
