S. Nakao, EFFECTS OF PHOTOPERIOD AND TEMPERATURE ON INDUCTION AND TERMINATION OF REPRODUCTIVE DIAPAUSE OF THRIPS SETOSUS MOULTON (THYSANOPTERA, THRIPIDAE), Nippon Oyo Dobutsu Konchu Gakkai-Shi, 42(3), 1998, pp. 172-173
Female Thrips setosus were reared under various combinations of temper
atures (23 degrees C, 18 degrees C and 5 degrees C) and photoperiods (
15L-9D and 10L-14D) at different stages and ages. Preoviposition perio
d was examined to identify the presence of reproductive diapause and t
he conditions controlling induction and termination of diapause. Short
-day photoperiod induced and maintained reproductive diapause, and bot
h high temperature (23 degrees C) and long-day inhibited diapause indu
ction and maintenance. Reproductive diapause was never terminated unde
r moderate temperature (18 degrees C) and short-day, but it was termin
ated under the same photothermic conditions after low temperature (5 d
egrees C) incubation for a certain period.
