G. Lei et al., SPECTROSCOPIC EVALUATION OF YB3-DOPED GLASSES FOR OPTICAL REFRIGERATION(), IEEE journal of quantum electronics, 34(10), 1998, pp. 1839-1845
The absorption and emission properties of Yb3+- doped ZBLANP, BIGaZYT
and QX/Yb phosphate glasses are studied to evaluate their potential fo
r laser-induced fluorescent cooling or optical refrigeration. The effi
ciency of optical refrigeration increases with pump wavelength in the
anti-Stokes region. The cooling efficiencies of the three glasses as a
function of temperature are evaluated at the wavelength lambda(p) cor
responding to the absorption coefficient of 10(-3) cm(-1). For tempera
tures <110 K, the cooling efficiency of the BIGaZYT glass may be more
than twice that of the ZBLANP.
