Abstract
A fibre Raman amplifier for 1520nm band WDM transmission is constructe d; its gain exceeds 20dB and its noise figure is similar to 5dB. Using the amplifier, the performance of an optically preamplified receiver and the effect of four-wave mixing suppression in dispersion-shifted f ibre transmission are examined.
