Abstract
The available thermodynamic data on the platinum group metals (PGMs) a re summarized with reference to the use of these metals and their allo ys at high temperatures. The significance of these data with regard to reactions with various environments and resulting corrosion effects a re discussed. The influence of solubility limits in platinum solid sol utions on achievable strength properties and the importance of oxide d ispersion hardening for further improving strength and corrosion resis tance are illustrated.
