Abstract
The holotype and only known specimen of Shingyisaurus unexpectus Young , 1965, from the Middle Triassic (Anisian) of China is redescribed. Or iginally identified as a simosaur, the incomplete and poorly preserved skull is instead referable to the genus Nothosaurus. Consequently, si mosaurs remain unknown from the western Pacific faunal province. The o ccurrence of Nothosaurus in the Anisian of China provides circumstanti al evidence for Asiatic affinities of the Nothosauridae.
