The interaction of a surface acoustic wave (SAW) with a two-dimensiona
l electron gas in a periodic potential and subject to a homogeneous ma
gnetic field is considered. We calculate the attenuation of the SAW an
d its velocity change and show that these quantities exhibit magneto-o
scillations induced by commensurability of the cyclotron radius of the
electrons with the potential modulation wavelength. Our calculations
show that the observation of the effect is within experimental feasibi
lity.
