The purpose of this article is to show how some links among various mo
dels of individual and family relationships begin to constitute a scie
nce of intimate relationships. Convergences and differences among thes
e models require their comparative evaluation in the laboratory as wel
l as in primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention. Examples from a t
heory of personality socialization in the family are given to illustra
te how links between theory and practice can be achieved through repli
cable measures in the laboratory, enrichment programs in primary preve
ntion, programmed distance writing in secondary prevention, and psycho
therapeutic tasks in tertiary prevention.
