Abstract
Gluon depletion in the collision of large nuclei can result in a signi ficant reduction in the c (c) over bar production rate. It may be the mechanism that is responsible for the observed J/psi suppression in he avy-ion collisions. The nonlinear effect due to multiple scatterings a mong comoving partons initiated by primary scattering of partons can a ccount for the enhanced suppression in the Pb-Pb data.
