G. Guida et al., ELECTROMAGNETIC MODELING OF 3-DIMENSIONAL METALLIC PHOTONIC CRYSTALS, Journal of electromagnetic waves and applications, 12(9), 1998, pp. 1153-1179
In order to investigate the properties of three-dimensional metallic p
hotonic crystals, we have developed an adaptation of Harrington's meth
od for scattering by thin wires. Due to the peculiarity of photonic cr
ystals, we have been led to renounce to two assumptions: the current i
ntensity in the wires is not assumed to vanish at a free extremity of
a wire and the Kirchhoff law at a junction between wires is not used a
ny longer. It is shown that, paradoxically, the numerical implementati
on is simplified by these changes and that our method provides a bette
r convergence of the results. Using our code, the properties of 3D met
allic photonic crystals are investigated and compared with those of 2D
crystals.
