Abstract
This paper illustrates the use of neural network techniques for analyz ing headway data collected from a group of 36 driving subjects during normal on-highway driving. Pattern recognition methods are used to ide ntify different types of headway-keeping behavior exhibited by these d rivers and their relative distributions. Possibilities for using neura l networks to represent longitudinal control behavior of drivers are a lso considered and discussed.
