The mechanism of retention of amphoteric solutes in micellar liquid ch
romatography is discussed. The studies were performed for thirteen sul
fonamides using sodium dodecyl sulfate as a mobile phase. The influenc
e of such parameters as the surfactant concentration, pH, temperature
of the column and several organic modifiers on the retention factor, c
olumn efficiency and the symmetry of peaks, was studied.
