The retention of selected 18 amino acids was investigated on stationar
y phases with immobilized unmetallated and metallated with Zn(II) and
Cu(II) tetraphenylporphyrin. The effects of eluent composition, its co
ncentration, pH, and the length of the column was examined. A mixed me
chanism of retention was confirmed involving coordination of solute to
metallic centres and hydrophobic interactions between aromatic rings
of porphyrin and some amino acids.
