Abstract
Recent studies show that an infrared cutoff plays a crucial role in ob taining gauge-independent damping rates for hot gauge theories calcula ted within the Braaten-Pisarski resummation scheme. In this Brief Repo rt we consider further the main issue involved of when such a cutoff s hould be removed as the mass-shell limit is approached.
