Abstract
We present preliminary results of a BeppoSAX observation of the active binary star UX Arietis. We report the first detection in a star other the Sun of hard (> 20 keV) X-ray emission during a large flare. Simil ar results were obtained a few days later for a flare observed by Bepp oSAX on Algol. We analyse time-resolved spectra of the UX Ari flare ob tained with the LEGS and MECS detectors over the spectral range 0.1 to 10 keV and we discuss possible interpretations for the high energy ta il seen with the PDS detector.
