Abstract
We present preliminary results of BeppoSAX and ASCA observations of th e Galactic field containing the unidentified gamma-ray transient GRO J 1838-04. Several weak X-ray sources are detected within the EGRET erro r box. No obvious counterpart of GRO J1838-04 is evident from these ob servations. More multiwavelength observations are necessary to identif y the nature of this non-blazar gamma-ray transient.
