MECHANIC PROCESSES ACTIVE IN SEISMITES - THEIR IDENTIFICATION AND TECTONIC SIGNIFICANCE IN THE PLIOCENE BASIN OF THE SAIS-OF-FES AND MEKNES(MOROCCO)

Various synsedimentary structures (dish-structure, convolute bedding, load-cast, bedding dislocation and dissipation, sand intrusion) are in terpreted as bring due to seismic liquefaction and subsequent fluidiza tion of marine and fluviatile sands. Their diversity is compared to th e various deformation processes of seismites and related to the local influence of granulometry, diagenesis and slope. The two seismites hor izons are referred to the end of the Middle Pliocene and the Late Plio cene and associated with tectonics to the south of the Rif orogenic be lt. (C) Elsevier, Paris.
