Endogone maritima sp. nov, is described and illustrated. This fungus w
as recovered from around the roots of endomycorrhizal Ammophila arenar
ia, Corynephorus canescens, Juncus balticus, J. articulatus, and ectom
ycorrhizal Pinus sylvestris colonizing a deflation hollow of the Slowi
nski National Park in Poland. Endogone maritima produces sunflower to
brownish yellow zygosporangia enveloped by a separable hyphal mantle c
onsisting of interwoven hyphae appearing in section as a dense net. Th
e zygosporangia occur both singly in the soil and in small, non-peridi
al sporocarps typically containing 2-7 zygosporangia.
