Vk. Voinikov et al., THE FIRST AND 6TH CHROMOSOMES OF SOFT WINTER-WHEAT D-GENOME CONTROL THE SYNTHESIS OF 310-KD COLD-SHOCK PROTEIN, Russian journal of plant physiology, 45(5), 1998, pp. 591-594
1D and 6D chromosomes of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cv. Bezostaya 1
were substituted with the corresponding chromosomes of frost-tolerant
cv. Albidum 114, and the effects of this substitution on the content o
f a stress protein with a mol wt of 310 kD were studied. It was sugges
ted that the 1D and 6D chromosomes of frost-tolerant winter wheat cont
ain genes that control the expression of this stress protein. Mitochon
dria from winter wheat seedlings were found to contain an antigen cros
s-reacting with antibodies against a 310-kD protein. Under hypothermia
, this protein was shown to reduce the proton control of oxidative pho
sphorylation in mitochondria.
