I. Caudron et al., RADIOGRAPHIC ASSESSMENT OF EQUINE INTERPHALANGEAL JOINTS ASYMMETRY - ARTICULAR IMPACT OF PHALANGEAL ROTATIONS (PART I), Journal of veterinary medicine. Series A, 45(6-7), 1998, pp. 319-325
This study is part of a work to develop a radiographic method that def
ines objectively the individual conformation of an equine digit and it
s appropriate trimming. The authors used isolated distal limbs on a ro
tation support to study the influence of induced foot rotations on sev
eral angles measured from specific radiographs. The results of this wo
rk enabled the authors to quantify the rotation of the proximal phalan
x compared to the distal, and to determine exactly the possible relati
on in the distal interphalangeal joint. It was also observed that, fac
ed with a forced rotation of the foot, the digit responded by a hoof p
lastic deformity, a distal interphalangeal intra-articular relation an
d asymmetrical interphalangeal compressions.
