Subtransmission and distribution systems for large cities are usually
built up of underground cable systems of considerable length. With reg
ards to both cost and performance, a multiterminal HVDC system might b
e an interesting alternative of the conventional HVAC system. The perf
ormances of such a multiterminal system have been studied. The simulat
ion results have shown that great improvement might be offered by the
introduction of such a multiterminal HVDC system especially with regar
d to the power quality and disturbances at earth fault in the system.
