Abstract
The first synthesis of a water-soluble cationic (sugar-substituted are ne)rhodium complex has been described. The water-soluble cationic rhod ium complex was synthesized by the reaction of an ethanol solution of [Rh(COD)Cl](2) with AgBF4 and then with phenyl-beta-D-glucopyranoside. This water-soluble rhodium complex acts as a catalyst precursor for t he hydroformylation of olefins in a two-phase (water and hexane) syste m and displays high regioselectivity and high conversion to branched-c hain aldehydes.
