Abstract
Polarisation-dependent surface-extended X-ray-absorption fine-structur e experiments have been performed on Cu(210)-(1 x 2)-O. The analysis s hows that oxygen chemisorbs in long-bridge sites along the [001] direc tion with nearest-neighbour and next-nearest-neighbour O-Cu distances of 1.81 +/- 0.02 Angstrom and 1.91 +/- 0.03 Angstrom respectively. A m issing-row reconstruction with missing [001] Cu rows is suggested. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
