Abstract
The rates of oxidation of 1,5-pentanediol and 1,8-octanediol with ceri um(IV) as well as the quantity of cerium(IV) reduced by tl aits-l,2-cy clohexanediol in aqueous solutions of perchloric acid as a function of time were estimated. The stoichiometry of the processes was determine d, and both intermediate and final products of oxidation were identifi ed. Plausible reaction mechanisms were proposed.
