It is shown that the impedance of the vacuum diode of a picosecond ele
ctron accelerator affects the energy of electrons and the beam current
. Relationships for determining the vacuum-diode impedance obtained on
the basis of the planar-diode theory ate used for deriving the expres
sions for the reflection coefficient, accelerating voltage, and curren
t beam. Forward and reflected voltage pulses in a picosecond accelerat
or are measured as functions of vacuum-diode impedance and characteris
tic impedance of the transmission line on IMAZ-150E tubes with various
interelectrode gaps.
