DEMENTIA AND VIDEORECORDING

Geriatric videotape assessment (GVA) is a new, ecological method of as sessment for elderly demented subjects. The behavior of the patients i s recorded in the following areas: dressing and undressing, going to a nd getting out of bed, personal hygiene, laying and clearing the table , preparing coffee, eating, drinking, washing dishes and dusting furni ture. The videosequences are compared with check lists of correct moto r elements, identifying incorrect sequences of the activity, in order to tailor a specific therapeutic rehabilitation program. GVA is incorp orated into a comprehensive assessment program of dementia, including also the traditional instruments, in order to convalidate the new meth odology.
