Abstract
Cerebral ischemia is considered an important cause of dementia. It has been studied in a group of 18 patients with cerebrovascular insuffici ency, whether the degree of cognitive impairment correlates with the s everity of cerebral ischemic changes. The cognitive impairment was ass essed by using the mini mental state examination (MMSE). The cerebral structural alterations were revealed by contrast-enhanced computed tom ography (CT). The results show that the severity of cognitive impairme nts correlates with the degree of dilatation of the supratentorial ven tricular system in elderly patients with multiinfarct dementia.
