A planar dielectric waveguide with chiral core was fabricated. The eff
ect of the chirality in the core on the propagation characteristics of
guided waves was measured. The experimental results show that, when t
he incident wave is TE mode, the polarization plane of the wave rotate
s in the chiral dielectric waveguide. It shows that there are no TE or
TM eigenwaves, but left-handed and right-handed elliptically polarize
d eigenwaves in the chiral dielectric waveguide. The phase constants o
f the left-handed and the right-handed eigenwaves are different, and t
he left-handed wave and the right-handed wave are orthogonal.
