Sessile drop experiments, anger electron spectroscopy (AES) and transm
ission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis have been performed on compo
sites: NiAl or NiAl(Ti) intermetallic matrix reinforced by alpha-alumi
na fibres. The role of Ti on the wettability behaviour at the fibre/ma
trix interface has been emphasized, as well as the reactivity of the f
ibre and the matrix during processing, and the effect of residual stre
ss induced dislocations in the absence of NiAl and NiAl(Ti) cracks. (C
