Abstract
The Wiener index is a topological index (graph invariant) defined as t he sum of distances between all pairs of vertices in a chemical graph. This index is examined for molecular graphs of catacondensed benzenoi d hydrocarbons. A simple method for the calculation of the Wiener inde x is put forward.
