The spatial-temporal correlation function of a noise sound field repre
sented by a mixture of a signal and an interference is modeled. The re
ception by a point hydrophone and a vertical array selecting a referen
ce mode is considered. The envelope of the correlation function of the
array and hydrophone signals is investigated. It is shown that, by pl
acing the reference hydrophone at some specific depths, one can select
a weak signal against a high-level ambient noise.
