Pl. Krapivsky et al., LOGARITHMIC ISLANDING IN SUBMONOLAYER EPITAXIAL-GROWTH, The European Physical Journal. B: Condensed Matter Physics, 4(4), 1998, pp. 401-404
We investigate submonolayer epitaxial growth with a fixed monomer flux
and irreversible aggregation of adatom islands due to an effective is
land diffusion, with a diffusivity for an mass k island proportional t
o k(-mu). For 0 less than or equal to mu < 1, there is a steady state,
while for mu greater than or equal to 1, continuously evolving logari
thmic islanding occurs in which the island density grows extremely slo
wly, as (ln t)(mu/2). In the latter regime, the island size distributi
on exhibits complex, but universal, multiple-scale mass dependence whi
ch we account for theoretically.
