Most existing wormhole networks do not provide support for prioritized
traffic at the link level. Conventional demand multiplexing does not
allow flexibility for fast movement of high priority messages such as
for synchronization and control information. In this paper, an approac
h to prioritized physical channel scheduling is proposed. The motivati
on behind the proposed approach and its description are presented. The
approach is evaluated and compared against the conventional demand mu
ltiplexing for a wide range of system parameters. The results demonstr
ate significant potential for designing high performance wormhole syst
ems to support prioritized traffic. (C) 1998 Published by Elsevier Sci
