Abstract
A new method for analyses of water-level data is introduced. The metho d is applied to data from six tide gauge stations for the period 1890- 1990. On this basis, it has been possible to document that an intense rise in the sea level has taken place after 1974, and that there is a close connection between the temperature record of the northern hemisp here and the water-level record throughout the last century. Finally, there is a periodic oscillation in the water level, which is connected with sunspot activity, and which clearly dominates the oscillation of the nodal tide.
