This article is an updated review emphasizing the importance of preven
ting cardiovascular disease starting in childhood through the modifica
tion of risk factors. There is a strong rationale for the initiation o
f dyslipoproteinemia treatment in Childhood to Limit the earliest stag
es of atherosclerosis, to establish lifelong lifestyle changes in diet
and activity, and to limit the acquisition of additional cardiovascul
ar disease risk factors such as smoking and obesity. Recent developmen
ts in therapy for pediatric dyslipoproteinemia, prevention programs, a
nd screening guidelines are discussed.
