Abstract
An algorithm, based on a discrete nonlinear model, is presented for ev aluation of the critical shear stress required to move a dislocation t hrough a lattice. The stability of solutions of the corresponding evol ution problem is analysed. Numerical results provide upper and lower b ounds for the critical shear stress.
